SPRING IS IN THE AIR

With the close of another wonderful winter, the weather in Teton Valley is finally starting to turn the corner.

At least, as much as spring can at 6,000 feet.

With the last few weeks of colder temperatures upon us, it is time to look forward to sun, slush, and longer days.

Activities in Teton Valley, more so than most places, are dictated by what is going on outside of the window. While the powder days become fewer and further between, that doesn’t mean it is time to put the skis and boards away!

In fact, we at Teton Valley Cabins are offering you a sweet spring special where, with the purchase of one room, you can get the second night free throughout all of April!

To help you get the most of your deal, we also put together a handy guide to events and fun adventures in and around Teton Valley.

The number one place for early spring activities still is up Ski Hill Road at Grand Targhee Resort, where the focus will shift to slushy corduroy and terrain park laps.

On April 8th GTR will be holding its annual Teton Surf Classic, a snowboard event that prioritizes style over spins and is always a blast. The custom park, shaped by a reinvigorated GTR Park Crew, is set to feature plenty of hips, banks, jumps, and jams.

While the Surf Classic is definitely the can’t-miss event of the spring (at least for snowboarders), there are plenty of joys at the resort that don’t involve aerial commitment.

Once the high spring sun comes out, party laps will ensue as the snow turns to the most approachable skiing and riding surface, slush. With the slush, tracks stop mattering and every slope remains a source of fun.

This time of the year is also best for skiing in t-shirts, jeans, and the fastest sunglasses you can find. Spring is also the season when the Trap Bar and its large outdoor patio really come into their own.

What can be bad about sipping a sloshie while getting a tan and staring at the beautiful mountains overhead? Any answer to this question is not a good one.

The best thing about spring at GTR however is the laid-back atmosphere and the absence of the dreaded powder panic. With the return of more consistent sunshine, Vitamin D is in abundance and the lack of snow removes the rush for the first chair.

In fact, many will be competing for the opposite… The last chair, after the sun softens the snow to its max.

While the spring sun changes the mountain, it also changes the valley. The nice weather also brings prime time for walks up Teton Canyon, snowmobile rides through the big holes, and more sunsets at dinner… just be sure to pack some boots that can handle some melt water!

Without too much worry about area highways being closed, spring also brings the further reaches of the region that much closer. XC skiing in West Yellowstone and trouble-free trips over Teton Pass to Jackson and Grand Teton National Park are also phenomenal ways to spend a fun day in the sun. Plus, you don’t have to worry about clouds ruining your view!

Speaking of Grand Teton National Park, spring is also the most approachable time to venture into the high peaks for backcountry skiing and snowboarding. The lack of snow and consolidation of the snowpack brings relatively stable avalanche conditions to the higher reaches, unlocking bigger lines and breathtaking views.

Albright peak is not only a stunning mountain to look at, but also a popular destination for high-altitude spring skiing.

Of course, proper knowledge of your chosen route and a high level of avalanche awareness (ALWAYS consult bridgertetonavalanchecenter.org for forecasts) is definitely needed, but the long daylight hours make any high-peak excursion well worth the effort.

If you can play your cards right, the season doesn’t have to end when the lifts stop spinning. This photo was taken last May!

In any case, Spring is an absolutely wonderful time to come and visit Teton Valley and Teton Valley Cabins. We sure hope you book and enjoy your stay with us! Call 866-687-1522 to book or to get some more information on our spring special.
